Greatness of Thirukkurungudi
Known as Siddhasramam this was the place where the great Lord Varaha narrowed down his large form to a small hut along with the Piratti hence the name of the place Kuriyavan Kudi became Kurungudi. The name of the place is also derived from the Vamana avatharam . This can be observed from the Acharaya Hrudayam sutras of Swami Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanar

Swami Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanar ‘s Acharaya Hrudayam was mainly based on the Azhwars divya Prabhandam. The above sutra is based on Nammazhwar’s deep interest in Thirukkurungudi Nambi’s divya mangala vigraham. (Thiruvaimozhi 9:5) where he takes the form of Parangusa Naayaki .(Nammazhwar is Naayaki form)
Parangusa Naayaki ‘s mother seeing her daughter deeply engrossed in Nambi asks her to forget Him saying that she will never be able to attain Him. Rather Parangusa Naayaki convices her mother that Thirukkurungudi Nambi has all the divine qualities that would not make her forget Him.

This was the first Archa vigraham sung by Nammazhwar. Lord Nambi is showing His divine grace in Thirukurungudi ( Close to Thirukurugur) and He’s not in a far away place like Sri Vaikuntam. So how can I forget Him. He’s got all the divine qualities and not a single fault is to be found in Him that’s why He’s known as Nambi and moreover He’s the head of all the Gods and Devas that they come and Worship Him. She asks her mother How do you expect me to forget a person who is so beautiful, who has got all the divine qualities, who is the head of all the Devas and above all who is in a place so close to Kurugur.
Nammazhwar in his Thiruvaimozhi (9:5) explains the beauty of Lord Nambi till his Thiruvadi. The fruit of learning the 10 pasurams of the Thiruvaimozhi devoted to Lord Nambi is that the person becomes a complete Srivaishnava .
